About Rose
Rose is an unincorporated community on the east side of US 183 in southern Rock County, about 28 miles south of Bassett in rolling Sandhills ranch country. The Rose Hill church, built in 1927, and the Rose Hill Cemetery are here.
History
Rose was named for the wild rose bushes near the site. Its post office opened on September 25, 1905, closed in July 1908, reopened on March 5, 1909, and lasted until December 20, 1985; in 1986 it became a community branch of the Bassett post office. The Rose Hill congregation began in 1907, took its name in 1910 and built its church in 1927; the Duff congregation joined it in 1962. Rose also had a school, listed by Rock County Public Schools in older directories.
