About Colton
Colton is a former Union Pacific station in Cheyenne County, on US 30 and US 385 in the Lodgepole Creek valley about 6 miles east of Sidney and 6 miles west of Sunol.
History
Colton was a Union Pacific station in Colton precinct. An 1882 travel guide says it was named for Francis Colton, a Union Pacific ticket agent; a later place-name book says it was probably named for a local resident. It had a post office from 1887 to 1901, and in 1921 it was a shipping point served by the Sidney station agent.
