About Randolph

Randolph is a city of 879 on US 20 in the southwest corner of Cedar County, a few miles east of US 81. It has Randolph Public Schools, the Randolph Family Practice Clinic, the Lied Randolph Public Library, a golf course, the Logan Creek Inn and campgrounds.

History

Randolph grew up in 1886 after the railroad came through and was named for Lord Randolph Churchill, the British statesman. The post office opened on January 12, 1887, and the town incorporated on May 7, 1889. In 1890 it was the end of an Omaha Road branch, later extended through Magnet to Bloomfield, and it was also on the Pacific Short Line, later part of the Great Northern.

The population peaked at 1,338 in 1920. Randolph calls itself the "Honey Capital" for its many beekeeping families, and since 2023 its summer Community Fair has included a Honey Fest, with a queen bee crowning and a honey baking contest. A flood-control project on Middle Logan Creek closed the city's old Veterans Memorial RV Park.
