About Weston

Weston is a village of 250 just south of NE 92 in Saunders County, about 6 miles west of Wahoo. It has St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and its school, and the Kacirek-Woita General Store on Elm Street is on the National Register.

History

Weston was platted in 1877 on land of Capt. William Davis and William E. Hill when the Omaha & Republican Valley Railroad (Union Pacific) arrived; the Troy post office had served the area before. R. H. Thomas opened the first store that summer, and the first elevator, built in 1880, shipped 400 cars of grain the next year. Czech Catholics held their first Mass here in 1885, and the present St. John Nepomucene church was dedicated in 1906; a Czech Presbyterian church was organized in 1882.

The Kacirek-Woita store, built in 1894, was a general store until about 1930 and was listed on the National Register in 2014. The population peaked at 432 in 1910. Major leaguer Bob Cerv, a 1958 All-Star, and NFL tight end Zach Miller were born in Weston.
