About Osmond

Osmond is a city of 794 people (2020) in northern Pierce County, at 1,654 feet on US 20, where NE 121 comes north from NE 13 and runs east with US 20 for about 3 miles before turning north into Knox County. It has Osmond General Hospital, Osmond Community Schools, the Osmond Public Library and the Osmond Republican newspaper. Plainview is about 10 miles west. Osmond is on Central Time.

History

Osmond began in 1890, when the railroad was built through northern Pierce County; the town was platted on May 5, 1890, and incorporated that December 19. It was probably named for a railroad official. The line later belonged to the Great Northern, which was building stock pens and track here in 1902 and 1906. The population peaked at 883 in 1970. A new municipal pool by the park and ball fields, replacing the pool of 1958, opened in 2020.
