History

The Redington post office opened in 1886, before the railroad towns of the valley, and was named for Henry V. Redington, a pioneer whom Fitzpatrick’s 1925 place-names book calls an Indian fighter who protected ranchers from cattle thieves. In 1937 the settlement had a school, a church, a grocery, a garage and more than two dozen homes. The post office closed in 1962 after 76 years.
