Ralston Nebraska

Ralston is a city in Douglas County, Nebraska, established through the 1907 sale of 282.7 acres owned by Omaha newspaper editor George L. Miller to the Ralston Investment Company; the townsite was platted in 1908 by Roy N. Towl, later an Omaha mayor himself, and incorporated as a village in 1912. Ralston is almost entirely surrounded by Omaha, bordered on its remaining side by La Vista, making it one of the most tightly enclosed suburbs in the metro area. The young city was devastated by the Easter Tornado of March 23, 1913, one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in Midwest history, and in 1934 became one of the first U.S. cities to declare bankruptcy, following a destructive fire. In 1967, Mayor Wendell Kronberg negotiated a non-annexation agreement with Omaha that helped preserve Ralston's independence as the surrounding city grew around it. Today Ralston is home to the Liberty First Credit Union Arena, opened in 2012 as the Ralston Arena, and operates its own Ralston Public Schools district. With a population of 6,494 (2020 census), Ralston remains one of Douglas County's more populous incorporated cities.

Ralston was platted in 1908 and incorporated in 1912, surrounded on nearly all sides by Omaha. Population was 6,494 in 2020.
