Snake River Falls, on the Snake River about 22 miles south of Valentine on NE 97 and a mile in on a dirt road, just north of Merritt Reservoir, is often called the largest waterfall in Nebraska by volume. It is on private land: visitors pay a small fee (about $1) at a drop box and view the falls from two roped-off overlooks, generally 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The path to the base is steep and slippery, and access is at the owner’s discretion.
