The Meridian Highway historical marker stands at NE 13 and 552nd Avenue, about 4 miles southeast of Pierce, on an original stretch of the 1911 Meridian Road, which became the Meridian Highway and then US 81. When the highway was moved in 1939 it bypassed Hadar and Pierce. About 4½ miles of the old road (552nd Avenue, 853rd Road and 551st Avenue, with a 1915 steel truss bridge) were listed on the National Register on November 29, 2001; Pierce County maintains them.
