This Nebraska Centennial marker stands at a rest area on the east side of NE 27, about 24 miles north of NE 2 at Ellsworth and about 30 miles south of Gordon. It honors Mari Sandoz (1896–1966), born in Sheridan County, author of Old Jules, Crazy Horse and Cheyenne Autumn. Her grave is about 2½ miles east-northeast, on a hillside above the family's Sandhills ranch.
