Grove Lake Wildlife Management Area, about 2 miles north of Royal off US 20, covers about 1,985 acres managed by Nebraska Game and Parks, with a 50-acre lake and three primitive camping areas. The East Branch of Verdigre Creek is one of northeast Nebraska's trout streams: about 200 catchable rainbow trout are stocked weekly year-round below the Grove trout rearing station, and browns reproduce naturally. A new fishing pier and boat-ramp work were completed in 2024. Open to hunting for deer, turkey, pheasant and quail under state rules.
