The George Cather Farmstead, about 5½ miles south-southwest of Bladen, was built in 1885 for George and Frances Cather, Willa Cather's uncle and aunt, the first Cathers in Nebraska. Frances was the model for Aunt Georgiana in "A Wagner Matinée," and their son G. P. Cather, killed in France in World War I, was the model for Claude Wheeler in One of Ours (Pulitzer Prize, 1923).
