Description

Boot Hill, at W. 10th Street and Parkhill Drive in Ogallala, was the town's burial ground during its cattle-trail years in the 1870s and 1880s, first called Mt. Calvary. Its first burials were a mother and child; three cowhands were buried in a single day in July 1879, and "Rattlesnake Ed" was shot over a $9 monte bet. Most remains were later moved to the city cemetery; only the unknown and unclaimed remain. A marker tells the story.
