History

The first Inland was laid out by the Burlington’s town company in the early summer of 1871, about 6 miles east of Hastings in Adams County. In 1878 the railroad moved the station 3 miles east into Clay County, onto land F. Fixen had bought from it, and the old town faded. An elevator went up in 1879, the year the post office opened, and J. S. Brooks kept the store, post office and telegraph.
