About Beaver Crossing

Beaver Crossing is a village of 375 people (2020) on Beaver Creek in southwestern Seward County, at 1,460 feet about 3½ miles south of I-80 Exit 369 by Link 80E. Utica is about 9 miles north-northwest and Milford 12 miles east. Students attend Centennial Public Schools in Utica. Beaver Crossing is on Central Time.

History

The village was platted in 1875 in hopes of a railroad, which did not arrive until 1887, and is named for an overland-trail crossing of Beaver Creek near the townsite. It reached its peak of 550 people in 1940. On May 11, 2014, an EF3 tornado damaged nearly every structure in town; no one was killed or injured. The Ella Eager House, 915 Walnut St., was added to the National Register in 2024. Sprint-car champion Jan Opperman, born in Long Beach, California, lived here in the 1960s.
