History

Settlers from near Fort Collins, Colorado, founded Collins in 1886 about a mile north of today's village, at the mouth of Sheep Creek draw, and its post office was serving the area by 1890. When the Burlington built up the valley in the early 1900s, Charles H. Morrill, president of the railroad's Lincoln Land Company, platted a new townsite on the line, and Collins moved to it. Morrill incorporated in 1907 and reached its largest population, 1,097, in 1980. West of town, the Horse Creek Treaty markers recall the great 1851 council of Plains tribes that produced the Fort Laramie Treaty.
