About Wann
Wann is an unincorporated community and census-designated place of 102 people in Marble Township, eastern Saunders County, about 7 miles north of Ashland and 5 miles northeast of Memphis. It uses Ashland's ZIP code.
History
Andrew Allen Wilson's family, the first settlers, sold about 10 acres for the railroad right-of-way and townsite on condition that no liquor ever be sold in the town. The railroad proposed "Wilsonville"; Wilson chose Wann, saying a small name suited a small town, with the W for Wilson. Lots were laid out by 1905, when the Sioux City & Western (Burlington) line was finished. The post office ran from 1908 to 1950, first in Charles Miller's general store.
The school opened in 1908 and still had about 25 pupils in 1982–83. The Pleasant Valley Church of Christ dedicated its building in 1889; the Wann Christian Church closed in 1979. By 1983 the store, bank, elevator and cream station were gone, and Omaha families had summer homes on ponds west of town.
