About Hadar

Hadar is a village of 280 people (2020) in southeastern Pierce County, at 1,555 feet about 6 miles north-northwest of Norfolk. NE 13 is its Main Street and begins at US 81 just east of the village. Hadar has Immanuel Lutheran School, a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod school, and a disc golf course, and it is part of the Norfolk micropolitan area. Hadar is on Central Time.

History

Hadar was platted on June 26, 1883, the fourth town in the county, soon after the railroad from Norfolk came through. Its name is the German word for strife or discord, after a long quarrel among the first settlers over where the town should be. The village grew slowly, to 141 people in 1930, then doubled after 1970 as Norfolk spread north; it reached 312 in 2000.
