About Brandon

Brandon is an unincorporated community on NE 23 and the NKC railroad in western Perkins County, in Lisbon precinct, about 10 miles west-southwest of Grant and 7 miles east-northeast of Venango.

History

Brandon began as a station on the Burlington line built west in 1887. The 1890 gazetteer described it as a station on the "Cheyenne branch of the B. & M." eight and a half miles east of the Colorado line, recently made a post office; the post office opened in 1890 and was still open in 1930. The name may honor a railroad official or come from Brandon, Ohio.

Nearby Lisbon, a station "seven miles from Grant" with about 20 people and Isaac Hart's store and post office in 1890, was one of the three towns that competed for the county seat in 1888. It was gone by 1912, but its name survives in Lisbon precinct. The District 8 country school, which stood west of Brandon, was moved to the Perkins County Museum in Grant, and Scoular still runs a grain site here.
