History

A post office opened here in May 1878; asked to choose a name, a Mr. Whiting picked Nora, for Nora, Illinois, from a postal directory. Methodists built a church in 1882. The townsite was laid out in 1887 as the Rock Island's line from Fairbury came through, and the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley crossed it in 1888, making Nora a junction of two railroads.

Nora incorporated as a village in 1918 and reached its largest population, 157, in 1930. Both railroads are long gone.
