About Angora

Angora is an unincorporated community on US 385, the Gold Rush Byway, in northern Morrill County, about 13 miles north of Bridgeport and 22 miles southwest of Alliance, at about 4,265 feet. It has a post office (ZIP 69331) and a cemetery; schools and services are in Bridgeport. Angora is on Mountain Time.

History

The Burlington established Angora in 1900 on its line between Bridgeport and Alliance; railway officials named it for Angora, the old name of Ankara, Turkey, and the place had earlier been called Antelope Hill. The post office opened in 1901 and is still open. The Morrill Fire of March 2026 began a few miles southeast, northeast of Bridgeport.
