Wymore was platted in 1881 as a railroad town on land donated by Sam Wymore to the Burlington Railroad, which made it a divisional headquarters. Settled heavily by Welsh immigrants, Wymore is known locally as "the Welsh Capital of the Great Plains" and is home to the Wymore Welsh Heritage Centre, said to hold one of the largest Welsh-language library collections in North America. Downtown streets are still paved with brick.
