The Neligh Mill State Historic Site, at N Street and Wylie Drive in Neligh, is the only 19th-century flour mill in Nebraska that still has its original 1880s milling equipment. John D. Neligh began the mill on the Elkhorn River in 1873, and William Lambert and William Gallaway completed it in 1874 of brick made in the county. The railroad reached the mill in 1880, and in 1886 it changed from millstones to rollers. It stopped grinding flour in the 1950s, and the state bought it in 1969; it is on the National Register. Visitors see the mill, the restored mill office, a reconstructed flume and penstock, and exhibits on water-powered milling. Admission is free. In season, Tuesday–Saturday 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; off season, Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (call ahead). Run by History Nebraska.
