About Cumro
Cumro is the site of a former post office in southern Custer County, at about 2,319 feet, about 9 miles northeast of Eddyville in Dawson County and 13 miles southwest of Mason City. A historical marker stands at the site.
History
The Cumro post office opened in 1885 with Morgan W. Jones as postmaster and closed in April 1943. Welsh settler William Edmunds named it for his homeland; the name echoes Cymru, the Welsh name for Wales. It lay between the Georgetown post office, 4 miles west, and Eudell, 3 miles east.
