History

Trumbull was established in the 1870s as part of the wave of settlement that swept through south-central Nebraska following the Homestead Act. Named for U.S. Senator Lyman Trumbull, who was a leading anti-slavery voice and co-author of the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery, the village reflects the civic ideals of its founding generation. A post office served the community through much of its history.
