About Eldorado
Eldorado was a post office and railroad stop in northern Clay County. Nothing of a town remains, and its exact site is not well recorded; Eldorado Township keeps the name.
History
The 1890 state gazetteer lists Eldorado as a post office in the northern part of the county, with about 75 people and a station called Eldon on the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad, part of the Chicago & North Western. The name is Spanish for “golden” and probably refers to the yellowish soil.
