Elmwood, Nebraska
Elmwood is a village in Cass County, Nebraska, with a population of 654 at the 2020 census. It was platted in 1886 and named for the elm trees found on the original townsite.
History
Elmwood is best known as the longtime home of novelist Bess Streeter Aldrich, a member of the Nebraska Hall of Fame whose fiction often drew on pioneer life in the state; her former residence in Elmwood is preserved today as a museum. Banker and state legislator Robert Clements also made his home in Elmwood, reflecting the town’s role as a local center of commerce and civic life in southern Cass County.
