Primrose is a village of 55 people (2020) in western Boone County, at about 1,824 feet on NE 52 between Cedar Rapids, about 6 miles southeast, and NE 91, a few miles north, where NE 52 ends. Spalding, in Greeley County, is about 8 miles northwest. Primrose has a village board, a small public library and a Presbyterian church. Its students attend Riverside Public Schools in Cedar Rapids and Spalding, and the nearest hospital is in Albion. Primrose is on Central Time.
History
Irish immigrants settled here first and named their post office Dublin, which opened on February 11, 1874. When the railroad was extended from Cedar Rapids in 1902, a townsite was platted on land owned by David Primrose, and the post office took his name on February 21, 1903. Primrose reached 210 people in 1930. Its school joined Cedar Rapids in 1990, and Cedar Rapids joined Riverside Public Schools in 2014.
