About Hansen
Hansen is an unincorporated community on the line between Adams County and Hall County, about 7 miles north of Hastings. A grain elevator remains; its school closed in 1988.
History
Hansen was laid out in 1879 by A. B. Ideson and J. J. Wemple on the Union Pacific’s new branch between Hastings and Grand Island, later the St. Joseph & Grand Island, and the railroad station was its first building. The post office opened in December 1879 and closed in the mid-1950s. The name honors a railroad official.
